The "Bikaoren" flowers, which signal the arrival of spring in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, are now in full bloom.
Bikao-ren is a perennial plant of the Ranunculaceae family, and it grows in clusters on the bases of trees and stone walls covered with moss, and it is said to have been named for its resemblance to plum blossoms.
The white petal-like part is called "calyx," and the yellow part in the center with a diameter of about 1 mm is the "flower."
At the Taki-jinja Shrine located in Kamikawa-cho, Kumano City, a large number of Camellias are blooming. Although they usually start blooming around early February, it is said that they finally fully bloomed by last week, due to the lack of rain.
You can enjoy the flowers of Bikaoren until early March.
